Lewis “Scooter” Libby, JD

Senior Vice President, Hudson Institute​

Lewis Libby is Senior Vice President of Hudson Institute and guides the Institute’s program on national security and defense issues. Before joining Hudson, Libby held several high level positions in the federal government: Chief of Staff to Vice President Richard B. Cheney, Assistant to the Vice President for National Security Affairs, and Assistant to the President (2001-2005), Legal Advisor to the U.S. House of Representatives’ Select Committee on U.S. National Security and Military/Commercial Concerns with the Peoples’ Republic of China (1998-99), and Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Policy and Principal Deputy Under Secretary for Strategy and Resources, U.S. Department of Defense (1989-1993). Prior to joining federal service, Libby served as the managing partner of the Washington office of the international law firm Dechert.

Libby has several notable publications and lectures on national and homeland security and also includes a novel, The Apprentice, set in Japan in 1903.
